1994
Founding of our parent company Optima Cycles, with locations in Taiwan and the Netherlands
2008
Sale of the first Dutch ID e-bikes (another brand within Optima Cycles), marking the beginning of our expertise in electric (cargo) bikes
2012
Start of cargo bike production at Optima Cycles, in our own factory
2016-2020
Expansion of frame production in Taiwan and the establishment of our own test center
2021
Launch of Lovens and the Explorer 1, introducing our new brand and our own electric cargo bike, with great success in the Netherlands
2024
International expansion of Lovens and the acquisition of Dolly: Optima Cycles becomes a cargo bike brand house

Lovens cargo bikes are built with premium components and developed by specialists who have been working for decades at the heart of modern bicycle production. The result is an electric cargo bike in which style, safety and comfort come together in one unique riding experience.

The Lovens Test Lab
Lovens is different. You see it. You feel it. For example in our test center in Taiwan, where specialists with decades of experience work on the development and refinement of premium e-bikes and cargo bikes.
In the Lovens Test Lab we don’t test to tick boxes, but to push boundaries. Frame, suspension and steering are tested with loads exceeding 150 kilograms, well beyond what is required in everyday family use. This ensures every Lovens performs exactly as intended, even in extreme conditions.
Curbs, emergency stops and sharp maneuvers are repeated again and again, until a Lovens rides the way it should: agile, stable and, above all, safe.

How we test
Drop and impact tests
We expose the frame to controlled mechanical shocks to test how it responds to unexpected impact. This allows us to verify that the construction offers maximum safety, even in unforeseen situations.
Standard compliance tests
We test drop and impact scenarios with extreme loads through controlled force from a defined height, ensuring a Lovens remains strong and safe if an unexpected fall occurs.
Fatigue tests
We simulate years of intensive use by subjecting individual parts of the bike to prolonged extreme loads. This ensures the frame retains its strength and quality, even after thousands of kilometres.
Testing and documentation
We carry out all applicable European standard tests, complemented by our own additional tests. This enables continuous product improvement and ensures the highest level of quality.
